This massive women’s college basketball brawl led to 15 suspensions, double forfeit

Texas Southern opted to end their season and Southern will have to go on with seven players suspended after this huge brawl.

Video has surfaced of the huge brawl that ended a game between Texas Southern and Southern, allowing administrators to pass down suspensions to 15 players.

The video, posted at the website of The Advocate from Baton Rouge and courtesy of the Southern University athletic department, shows the foul that preceded the fight and the entirety of the melee, which spills off the court as referees, coaches, and other bystanders try to break it up.

The fight had major implications in the SWAC: Texas Southern was set to be the top seed in the league’s tournament, which awards an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, but opted to withdraw after the fight. Southern is the No. 2 seed, but will have a hard time winning with seven players suspended.

Texas Southern had eight players suspended, and those suspensions will presumably be carried over to next season. Southern opted to dismiss Keonia Parrish from the program after the fight.

The game was ruled a “double forfeit.” Southern was considered the winning team, because they had the lead at the time, but statistics from the game do not count since it did not last 30 minutes.
