The Washington University freshman crew team was out on the lake for practice and headed back to its dock when all of a sudden a slew of Asian carp began jumping out of the water, hurtling over, around, and into the boat.
College crew team gets bombarded by terrified, possibly suicidal jumping fish
These fish did not take kindly to their lake being rowed upon.
Nobody got hurt, but this is scary as heck. Asian carp are huge (they can grow up to 100 pounds) and yeah, they leap a lot:
Silver carp have become notorious for being easily frightened by boats and personal watercraft, which causes them to leap high into the air. The fish can jump up to 2.5-3 m (8-10 feet) into the air, and numerous boaters have been severely injured by collisions with the fish.[3] According to the EPA, "reported injuries include cuts from fins, black eyes, broken bones, back injuries, and concussions."
You think the only competition for rowers is other rowers, but don’t forget the aquatic bros upset that their water is being used for non-fish activities. They truly have the home-water advantage. To dominate, one must appease the jumping fish and ensure they only attack your opponents.
