A DII player named Laquavius Cotton destroyed the College Slam Dunk contest

The Division II baller beat the guys from the big schools easily.

Before the College Slam Dunk contest, we’d heard of most of the competitors -- Wichita State’s Tekele Cotton, Green Bay’s Keifer Sykes, Arizona State’s Shaq McKissic -- but not Laquavius Cotton, from DII Delta State. (Go Fighting Okra!) After his performance, though, now we all know his name.

In the first round, he easily cleared Butler’s Alex Barlow, kept rising, and threw down with force:

In the semifinals, he put his head above the rim, reached back, and hammered:

His opponent in the finals was Sykes, who actually didn’t complete a dunk, so Cotton won more or less uncontested -- he tried to throw down a powerful through-the-legs dunk before settling for a one-hander off the bounce.

Congrats to Cotton -- and now we all know his name.

(Delta State is technically the Statesmen, but let’s be real: Fighting Okra.)
