An extremely scary moment occurred at the Pirates-Cubs game at PNC Park on Monday evening. Starlin Castro was at the plate to start the top of the second inning and A.J. Burnett was pitching, when this happened:
Fan hit in head by foul ball at Pirates game, taken off on stretcher
Those seats behind home plate can be very dangerous.

Yes, there was a protective netting behind home plate, but that netting flexes and the fan who was struck was just standing too close to it at exactly the wrong time.
The game is delayed after a foul ball hit someone through the protective netting directly behind home plate. Being tended to now.
— Bill Brink (@BrinkPG) April 21, 2015 The game ended up being delayed for more than 20 minutes.
Cubs-Pirates back underway after a 22-minute delay. The injured woman was carted off on a stretcher. Will provide updates when available
— SI MLB (@si_mlb) April 21, 2015 Woman hit in head with Castro's foul ball taken from field. Appears to be conscious. Friend next to her gives thumbs up to crowd.
— Gordon Wittenmyer (@GDubCub) April 21, 2015 Hopefully the fan will be okay. The Pirates tweeted this out following the delay:
A scary moment here in the 2nd as a fan is hit with a foul ball. Our thoughts and prayers are with her tonight.
— Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) April 21, 2015 When play finally resumed, Castro finished his at-bat with a single.
Update: According to the Pirates, the woman was taken to a local hospital where she was conscious and alert.
