The Preakness Stakes may be the top race on the docket at Pimlico on Saturday, but the undercard is already underway and just as exciting. Folks hoping American Pharoah will be victorious in both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness can tune in at 6:15 p.m. ET, but 12 other races precede that race and we’ll have results throughout the day.
Preakness 2015 undercard results: Sandbar, My Team score upsets on Saturday
Jockeys Trevor McCarthy and Joel Rosario cleaned up on the undercard, each picking up a pair of wins in the first five races on Saturday.

Those 12 races have a combined total purse of $1.337 million, which comes in just shy of the $1.5 million purse for the Preakness Stakes race, but that’s still plenty of coin on the line. The first half of the day saw four turf races and three dirt races.
The first race was a turf race over five furlongs, with a purse of $50,000. That race went to Finnegan, a two-year old making his debut on turf. Finnegan easily took the race by five lengths. Wesley Ward is the trainer and Joel Rosario was the jockey for that race. Race No. 2 on the day, a dirt race over 11/16 miles, was won by Fish Whistler, who had 7/2 odds of winning the race. Stolen Love was the heavy favorite to win that one at6/5.
In the Xpressbet Purse turf race, also 11/16 miles, was won by My Team. It’s worth noting that Trevor McCarthy was atop both Fish Whistler and My Team and had two wins on the day at this point. In the fourth race, the James W. Murphy Stakes, a one-mile race with a purse of $100,000, Woodwin W picked up its fourth ever win. The Maryland Sprint Handicap came next, and as one of the headliners it carried a purse of $150,000. Happy My Way was the 5/2 favorite, but Sandbar was the horse who came up victorious in that one, passing Happy My Way down the final stretch.
Rosario and McCarthy both had a pair of wins just five races into the day.
Hooligan managed to take the sixth race after a poor start, taking the lead shortly after the first turn. That was the Good Neighbor’s Race over five furlongs, with a purse of $52,000. The Sir Barton Stakes was next, carrying a purse of $100,000. Donworth was the favorite at 2-1 but Fame and Power took the lead, beating out Donworth -- who took third -- and Bold Conquest, who took second. Fame and Power was ahead for the entirety of the race. The horse is trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert. Rosario’s third win of the day came in the eighth race, riding Slip By to victory.
