Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Shelby Miller pitched came within one out of first no-hitter of the 2015 season on Sunday, but settled for a two-hit shutout in leading the Atlanta Braves to a 6-0 victory over the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park.

Justin Bour singled up the middle with two outs in the ninth inning, snapping a string of 22 consecutive batters retired by Miller. a Dee Gordon followed with an infield single, but Miller got Martin Prado to pop out to second base to end the game.

The right-hander struck out four and threw 94 pitches in his gem. The only Marlins hitter to reach base before the ninth inning was Marcell Ozuna, who walked in the second inning but was erased on a double play.

Miller faced two batters over the minimum in his shutout.

With his nine scoreless frames on Sunday, Miller overtook the major league lead with a 1.33 ERA, and extended his scoreless streak to 14 straight innings. Miller has allowed one run in 25 innings in May, and improved to 5-1 on the season.

Sunday was the fourth complete game and fourth shutout for Miller in his career, and his second in three starts. He beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-0 on May 5 in Atlanta.

He threw a one-hitter against the Colorado Rockies on May 10, 2013.

Miller kept the ball in the infield for most of the game, inducing 12 ground ball outs. The hardest-hit ball of the day was a rocket line drive by Giancarlo Stanton in the seventh inning, but it found the glove of left fielder Todd Cunningham on the warning track, one of just five balls hit to the outfield by Miami all day.

Other close calls came on pitcher Henderson Alvarez's slow chopper to shortstop in the third inning, and Gordon's bunt up the first base line in the fourth, with both runners retired by a step at most. Pinch-hitter a Ichiro Suzuki hit a slow roller to shortstop in the eighth inning, but was thrown out by shortstop Andrelton Simmons on a close play to end the frame.

The Braves haven't had a no-hitter since Kent Mercker no-hit the Dodgers on April 8, 1994.

The win on Sunday completed a three-game sweep by the Braves and improved their record against the Marlins to 7-2 this season, including 6-0 in Miami.
