Rory McIlroy scrambling to Mayweather-Pacquiao after WGC round

Unclear whether this is excellent or terrible time management.

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Rory McIlroy bought tickets earlier this week for the much-hyped Mayweather-Pacquiao bout in Las Vegas. The only problem? He needs to be in San Francisco today to play in the WGC Match Play tournament. If he wins his morning match, he’ll have to play in the afternoon. Even in the best-case scenario, this only gives him, oh, a few hours to get from a golf course in San Francisco to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Rory told reporters his plan:

Go in the afternoon and try and win that match. Bring a change of clothes here, try and avoid [the media], not come in here, go straight to the airport.

Rory said if it becomes clear that he can’t make the fight, he’ll stay in California and watch the fight on TV like the rest of us peasants.
