Leo Santa Cruz and Vasyl Lomachenko won as expected on tonight’s Mayweather-Pacquiao undercard.
Vasyl Lomachenko improved to 4-1 (2 KO) with a ninth-round knockout of a game-but-overmatched Gamalier Rodriguez (25-3-3, 17 KO), retaining his WBO featherweight title. The Ukrainian, who is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and considered one of the all-time great amateur fighters, was dominant after a decent start from Rodriguez, an unheralded contender who gave his best effort but simply wasn’t on Lomachenko’s level. Rodriguez strayed low repeatedly, and lost two points for low blows in the fight. Rodriguez also took knees twice, including in the ninth round, when he stayed on the canvas for the 10 count.
