Jets offensive coordinator names Geno Smith starting QB

As of now, Ryan Fitzpatrick is not under consideration for the starting quarterback job in New York.

Despite trading a late-round pick for seasoned vet Ryan Fitzpatrick, the New York Jets appear happy to continue with Geno Smith under center. According to New York Daily News' Seth Walder, offensive coordinator Chan Gailey says there won't be a quarterback competition and Smith will remain the starter.

Smith has spent most of the first two seasons of his NFL career as the off-and-on starter for the Jets since being selected with the 39th overall pick by former general manager John Idzik. However, with the front office and coaching staff changes this offseason, it appeared that Smith would have to fight to retain his job. Apparently that won’t be the case, as Gailey has settled on the former West Virginia Mountaineer as the starter moving forward.

Smith has accumulated an 11-18 record since entering the league in 2013. His career numbers include a 57.5 completion percentage, 5,571 passing yard, 25 touchdown passes and 34 interceptions.
