The annual spelling bee returns to ESPN.

The event got underway on Wednesday with the preliminary round. The field was narrowed, setting the stage for Thursday. First on tap is the semifinal, which begins at 10 a.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN2. The championship round begins later in the evening and will result in the crowning of the 2015 Scripps National Spelling Bee champion. The championship round is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN. Last year, Ansun Sujoe and Sriram Hathwar shared the championship. Recent winners correctly spelled words such as “stichomythia,” “knaidel” and “guetapens.”
In addition to the main broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2, there will be an additional option for the more serious spelling bee watchers. ESPN will provide a “Play-Along” version that will give fans a one-in-three chance to select the right spelling. The Play-Along edition can be located on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
