Willie Cauley-Stein had a good reason for legally changing his name -- his legal name was Willie Durmond Cauley Jr., but his father fell out of his life at a young age. So he always went by “Willie Cauley-Stein” to honor his mother, Marlene Stein, and her family, who raised him. However, while getting that paperwork filled out, he decided to make one other change. Willie Cauley-Stein legally changes name to ‘Willie Trill Cauley-Stein’
LEGALLY TRILL.
He filed a name-change order Friday with the Probate Division of the Fayette District Court to legally change his name to Willie Trill Cauley-Stein... Trill is the “nickname his ‘boys’ call him,” Stein said.
“Trill” is no longer a nickname. It’s his middle name. Even Bun B can only claim that it’s his Twitter handle. Willie is legally Trill.
This wasn’t a thing he planned in advance: Cauley-Stein’s mother says that he decided to add the middle name while he was at the courthouse, because why not? Our only regret is that he opted not to go all out, and make his official name Trillie Cauley-Stein. Because we want to hear Adam Silver say that in June very badly.
