Mike Trout named All-Star MVP, first ever back-to-back winner

Angels center fielder Mike Trout got the American League off to a hot start in the first inning with a home run, and was named the 2015 MLB All-Star Game MVP in a 6-3 win over the National League at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.

Trout, who also won the MVP in the 2014 All-Star Game, is the first back-to-back winner of the award.

Trout hit a home run to right field to lead off the game against Zack Greinke, then scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning as well. Trout walked in the seventh inning and was replaced by a pinch runner to complete his night.

In his four All-Star Games, Trout is 5-for-10 (.500) with three runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, a triple, a home run and two walks. His home run on Tuesday completed his career All-Star cycle, if there even is such a thing.

While Trout is the first back-to-back All-Star MVP winner, he is the fifth player to win multiple All-Star MVPs, joining Willie Mays, Steve Garvey, Gary Carter, and Cal Ripken Jr. As the All-Star MVP, Trout had his choice of two free cars. Last year, he selected a Corvette so this year he opted for a truck instead of a Camaro.

This is the fourth time an Angels player has won All-Star Game MVP. Aside from Trout's two wins, Leon Wagner won in 1962, as did Garret Anderson in 2003.
