DeAndre Jordan told Clippers he had second thoughts about signing with Mavericks

Jordan reportedly initiated the contact with Los Angeles that’s led to a second meeting.

DeAndre Jordan was the one who came to the Los Angeles Clippers with second thoughts about his agreement with the Dallas Mavericks, and not the other way around, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne. Now Jordan is reportedly preparing to meet with the Clippers again despite agreeing to terms on a four-year, $80 million deal with the Mavericks on July 3.

The Clippers are pushing hard to get Jordan to back out of his agreement with the Mavericks in favor of re-signing with the team, but it appears their effort was initiated by Jordan. The big man called Rivers on Monday to discuss “having second thoughts” about leaving for Dallas, and now Los Angeles is pulling out all the stops to try to convince him to stay.

Jordan, an unrestricted free agent, can’t technically sign any contract until the moratorium is lifted on Thursday, so there’s still time for both the Clippers and Mavericks to continue persuading his camp. Los Angeles has reportedly bypassed Jordan’s agents at Relativity Sports in order to personally appeal to him, and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has already flown to Jordan’s hometown, Houston, in an effort to “fend off the Clippers’ 11th hour push.”

Shelburne says the Clippers are “hopeful” he’ll re-sign now, which is surprising considering that he looked like a goner just a day ago.
