Gerald Green has agreed to a 1-year deal with the Heat

Free agent wing Gerald Green has agreed to a one-year deal with the Heat, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Suns allowed Green to hit unrestricted free agency this summer after a disappointing season coming off the bench. The former Slam Dunk champion had a breakout during the 2013-14 season with Phoenix but couldn't replicate it, which explains why the team didn't stop him from hitting the open market this summer.

Green's talent is obvious but he's battled inconsistency since being drafted 18th overall in 2005. The 6'8 wing played for four teams during his first four seasons, then went to Russia for two years before the New Jersey Nets came calling with a chance at redemption. He followed through, showing flashes of potential with the Nets, then flopped badly after signing with the Indiana Pacers the following season.

That left the Suns to take a chance on Green in 2013, and he once again stepped up with his best season yet. Playing all 82 games for Phoenix in 2013-14, he averaged 15.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, and showed an improved shooting stroke by hitting 40 percent of his threes. Green took a step back last season, however, once again struggling to put together a strong year-to-year performance in the NBA.

In Miami he will be relied upon to bring scoring off the bench, which is the role he's best suited for. The Heat selected small forward Justise Winslow with the 10th overall pick in the draft but need a proven offensive player behind Dwyane Wade and Luol Deng. It seems like a good fit for both parties.
