Rex Ryan is going to eat a dog biscuit for a dog charity

It’s for a good dog cause!

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday, the Buffalo Bills announced that coach Rex Ryan is going to eat a dog biscuit -- for charity, mind you.

How did this come about, you ask? Well, there’s a social media campaign called the “Dog Biscuit Challenge.” It’s being compared to the Ice Bucket Challenge, and as Barbara Carr of the Erie County SPCA explains:

“We’re raising money for our Paws in the Park fundraiser, which is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Carr said. “And we thought this year we would challenge our friends to donate to the cause, eat a biscuit or both.”

After her interview with Carr, WIVB anchor Teresa Weakley challenged Rex Ryan to eat a dog biscuit on Twitter:

And WGRZ’s Nate Benson did the same:

On Thursday, he did it! He ate a dog biscuit! He liked it and said he’d go for one more!

Apparently, eating a dog biscuit is not as bad as you think, but, as WIVB explains, not all dog biscuits are created equal:

An important reminder: not all dog food is safe for human consumption. Be sure to read the label before eating any dog biscuit. If it’s not safe to eat, it will say so on the package.

But there you have it: The power of social media being used to get Rex Ryan to eat a dog biscuit ... while also helping out good, loving dogs.

You don’t have to eat a dog biscuit to donate to the SPCA, but if you want to donate, you can do so over here. Also, if you want to eat a dog biscuit anyway, you can visit your local pet store.
