Tennis coach tells player to ‘shut the f*** up’ as motivational tactic

Coach Stephen Amritraj will not be proud of this moment.

Since 2008, the Women’s Tennis Association’s allowance of on-court coaching has produced some interesting conversations over the years, as coaches are mic’ed up while discussing key tactics or providing motivation for their players. On Wednesday afternoon at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, American Alison Riske’s conversation with her coach Stephen Amritraj produced one on-court coaching moment unlike any other. Upset over Riske being a little dejected over the previous game, an angry Amritraj ripped off his mic but was caught telling her to “shut the f--k up.”

Whether it was appropriate (it was not), Riske did go on to score her best win of 2015, upsetting Top 10 player Carla Suarez Navarro 6-4, 6-4.
