Fantasy football advice, Week 3: Who to start/sit for Falcons vs. Cowboys

The two teams are both 2-0, though each have beaten the Giants and Eagles, so maybe they aren’t quite that good.

The Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons have played the exact same schedule through the season's first two weeks, just in the opposite order. Dallas beat the New York Giants in Week 1, then the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2; Atlanta beat the same two teams. Dallas, of course, won at a cost, with the Cowboys' starting quarterback and No. 1 wide receiver lost for a big chunk of the season. But 2-0 is 2-0, and the Cowboys and Falcons will put their undefeated records to the test against one another Sunday.

On top of being without Dez Bryant and Tony Romo, the teams come in with other injury problems fantasy owners should note. Atlanta rookie running back Tevin Coleman is dealing with a rib injury and is almost certain to miss Sunday. Wide receiver Julio Jones was limited this week with a hamstring issue, but that seems largely precautionary and he should be fine for Sunday. On the Dallas side, tight end Jason Witten is somehow likely to play despite two sprained ankles and a knee injury. He is ridiculous, if you'll allow the editorializing.

The Cowboys will host the Falcons Sunday, with the game scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:

FALCONS

Start 'em: You would like better production from Matt Ryan through two weeks (16.5 fantasy points a game), but this is who he is: A good fantasy quarterback, who will always be in the position's top 10, but never a contender for No. 1. ... Even with the minor injury worry, Julio Jones is as sure a fantasy option as there is in the game. ... Matt Bryant is just a solid kicker.

Start 'em?: With Tevin Coleman almost certainly out, Devonta Freeman, who ran well after Coleman got hurt in Week 2, will carry the load. He's an interesting flex option.

Sit 'em: In Week 1, Roddy White well outperformed Leonard Hankerson; it reversed in Week 2. Both have some upside, but with both active, they're almost impossible to trust. ... Jacob Tamme is an improvement on the Atlanta TE situation from 2014, but he isn't a fantasy option. ... The Falcons' defense has put up exactly three points in both games this season; even against a depleted Dallas offense, it can't be trusted.

COWBOYS

Start 'em: Dallas is going to have to go heavy on Joseph Randle and the run game with Tony Romo out, and even though the opponents will know that, the team's strong offensive line should make Randle capable of handling it. ... Even if Jason Witten isn't at 100 percent -- and he won't be -- he has a strong chance at scoring. ... Dan Bailey is as solid a kicker as there is.

Start 'em?: In addition to Randle, Darren McFadden will see a boost as the team adjusts to its new, injury-filled life. ... Terrance Williams catching passes from Romo would at least be interesting. Without Romo, he's just a flex. ... The biggest beneficiary of the team's new reality might be Gavin Escobar, who could be a sneaky deep play. ... The Cowboys' defense ran wild in Week 2, and while Sam Bradford won't be on the opposite side every week, it's an underrated unit.

Sit 'em: There's a reason Brandon Weeden was quoted in the offseason saying, "God forbid I am forced to play," and it's not because he'd be a good fantasy option. ... If you're in a PPR league, there's maybe an argument for Lance Dunbar, but he's miles from a sure thing. ... Cole Beasley is just a guy, and not a fantasy consideration.

SUMMARY

Start in every league: Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Matt Bryant, Joseph Randle, Jason Witten, Dan Bailey
Start if you’re desperate: Devonta Freeman, Darren McFadden, Terrance Williams, Gavin Escobar, Dallas defense
Bench: Roddy White, Leonard Hankerson, Jacob Tamme, Atlanta defense, Brandon Weeden, Lance Dunbar, Cole Beasley
