Perhaps no team has been more impressive through two weeks than the New England Patriots, who have put up 68 points already this season. The Jacksonville Jaguars can’t really compare, but the fact that they’re 1-1 has to be a small victory for a team that most assumed would definitely be 0-2 at this point. The two play each other on Sunday.
Fantasy football advice, Week 3: Who to start/sit for Jaguars vs. Patriots
Normally it’d be easy to write the “powerhouse Pats vs. bumbling Jags” preview, but the Jaguars had to go and ruin it by winning in Week 2.
The Jaguars will be without backup running back Denard Robinson on Sunday, and put wide receiver Rashad Greene on injured reserve earlier in the week. Tight end Julius Thomas continues to recover from a hand injury. For the Patriots, all their fantasy-relevant players should be on the field.
Sunday’s game will be hosted by the Patriots, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. It’s time for a look at the fantasy names to consider:
JAGUARS
Start ‘em: After a disappointing Week 1, Allen Robinson had a monster Week 2. He’s a strong WR2.
Start ‘em?: We’re still waiting for the first double-digit fantasy day for T.J. Yeldon, who has 14 fantasy points in two games. He’s a mid-range flex option.
Sit ‘em: It was a strong performance for Blake Bortles in Week 2, but he has a long way to go before you can really trust him. ... The Jacksonville offense probably can’t support multiple receivers right now, making Allen Hurns really hard to trust. ... Through two games, the Jaguars have yet to target a tight end. Julius Thomas’ absence hasn’t meant anything for Marcedes Lewis. ... Jason Myers, like the rest of the team, had a fine Week 2, but is back on the bench here. ... The Jaguars’ defense isn’t usable in normal situations. Against New England it’s terrifying.
PATRIOTS
Start ‘em: That makes 55 fantasy points through two games for Tom Brady, who is as good as ever. ... Julian Edelman is a monster at wide receiver. ... If Edelman is a monster, there just isn’t a mythical creature worthy of Rob Gronkowski’s name. ... You’re starting Stephen Gostkowski now and forever. ... The Patriots’ defense should have a big day against Jacksonville.
Start ‘em?: Another year, another group of questions around the New England running backs. Dion Lewis has been good so far, but you’re just never sure. ... Every week, Scott Chandler will look like a low-floor, decent-ceiling TE2 option, with touchdown upside.
Sit ‘em: We should see more from LeGarrette Blount than we saw in his 2015 debut, but he should sit until we know for sure.
SUMMARY
Start in every league: Allen Robinson, Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Stephen Gostkowski, New England defense
Start if you’re desperate: T.J. Yeldon, Dion Lewis, Scott Chandler
Bench: Blake Bortles, Allen Hurns, Marcedes Lewis, Jason Myers, Jacksonville defense, LeGarrette Blount
