The No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes dispatched of Virginia Tech, the only team to beat them last season, 42-24 on Monday night. Were it not for a second quarter lull and a late Hokies touchdown long after the game had been decided, it would not have been that close. The Buckeyes, with Cardale Jones at quarterback, scored on the game’s first two possessions and added touchdowns on three consecutive second half possessions to put it away.
Cardale Jones and Ohio State thump Virginia Tech to finally close Week 1
Good morning, college football! Here’s your wakeup roundup.

Spin cycle. Monday night, former QB Braxton Miller debuted as a WR, breaking out one of the most ridiculous spin moves ever seen during a 53-yard touchdown run. He then broke out LeBron James’ signature celebration dance to mark the occasion as Cardale imitated his teammate on the sideline. Miller’s first reception, a diving grab over the middle, was almost as memorable.
Week 1 is done. If you're going to take way too much away from the first week of the season, focus on Notre Dame and Texas A&M. Or don't, and draw conclusions about a bunch of other teams with the Solid Verbal.
Notes from the victims. As if the loss wasn’t bad enough for Virginia Tech, Hokies quarterback Michael Brewer suffered a broken left collarbone and will miss a month.
The chosen one? Bruins quarterback Josh Rosen had a good debut, but did you realize it was downright Jameis Winston-esque?
More bad news. Panthers running back, and reigning ACC Player of the Year, James Conner will miss the rest of the season with an MCL injury.
And more. The knee injury bug has also come to Westwood, where UCLA lost defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes for the year with a torn ACL.
Rocky Top. Rockier rush defense. Despite the fact that his team ran for zero yards in the first quarter against Akron, Bob Stoops thinks Oklahoma is going to be able to run on Tennessee. Volunteers fans aren’t so sure he’s wrong.
Jumping around is not sound defensive strategy. Bucky’s 5th Quarter breaks down what went wrong for the Wisconsin defense against Alabama. The first problem: It was playing Alabama.
What of BYU? With Taysom Hill again injured, what will the Cougars do to get by?
Jim Harbaugh: Not a doctor. Telling a player who is short of breath to do push-ups sounds less like legitimate medical advice and more like the thing that got Mike Leach in trouble at Texas Tech.
WHAT ARE THOOOOOOOSE no seriously they’re scaring me. Alabama super fan has a Crimson Tide-themed fake eye. That way, he can send it rotating across the table and yell “ROLL TIDE.”
