Sunday, the Brooklyn Nets fired Lionel Hollins as head coach, while Billy King stepped down as the team's general manager and was reassigned. It seemed to signal a fresh start for the franchise, but that's not quite the case. In fact, the Nets are letting King keep a hand in the pot. It's expected that King will be asked to help find his replacement at general manager as part of his reassignment, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
The Nets are reportedly asking the GM they reassigned to help find his replacement
Billy King is expected to help the Nets find a new general manager.

It's an unusual move, to say the least. King served as the Nets GM starting in 2010 and orchestrated the trades that brought Deron Williams to the Nets and swapped out future draft picks for Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. But that's what's caused the mess in Brooklyn. Those aging superstars were unable to win at a championship level, and now the future is bleak.
The Nets are in a horrible position. They have few draft picks and are 10-27 with their current roster. The team over at Nets Daily argues that the Net’s front office “small group” culture is the core problem for the franchise. They have made many Billy King-connected hires in recent years. Allowing King to play an active role in hiring his replacement isn’t just awkward, it also only magnifies that troubling trend.
