Ben Roethlisberger will have surgery after injuring left knee vs. Dolphins

There’s no timetable on his return

The Pittsburgh Steelers had quite the scare Sunday, when Ben Roethlisberger sustained an injury midway through the second quarter against the Miami Dolphins.

Roethlisberger walked off gingerly, and was assisted by a trainer in heading to the locker room.

Roethlisberger and the Steelers had gotten off to an impressive start after Roethlisberger hit Darrius Heyward-Bey for a 60-yard touchdown pass. Roethlisberger had been sacked twice in the game, and has always been known to take the toughest beatings of any quarterback in the league.

Big Ben has had a good year with 1,496 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and just four picks. Luckily for the Steelers, Roethlisberger was cleared to return to the game by the team, sporting a left knee brace.

After the game, Roethlisberger told reporters that the injury happened before he threw the ball. Typically on those types of non-contact injuries they tend to be serious, but Roethlisberger added that more will be known Sunday night.

On Sunday night, Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Roethlisberger will have surgery Monday morning. There’s no timetable for his return. Landry Jones, who took over for Roethlisberger when he briefly left against the Dolphins, will likely start in the Steelers’ Week 7 matchup against the New England Patriots.
