Brock Osweiler lost his confidence. Can you help him find it?

We’re also losing our confidence in Bill O’Brien’s “QB guru” label.

Brock Osweiler stinks. Worse, it’s starting to look like the Houston Texans made a huge, $72 million mistake when they signed the free agent quarterback this spring. All the bad play is snowballing for Osweiler, and it’s creating a bigger problem, a loss of confidence in his ability to be a slightly less bad quarterback, according to a report from Adam Schefter.

Look no further than him missing a wide open tight end by three yards, one source said. Missing throws has kind of been Osweiler’s thing all season. He’s completing just 58 percent of his passes. In a Week 5 loss to the Vikings, he struggled to complete 45 percent of his throws.

Maybe it was big meanie John Elway. The Broncos team president remarked this season about “deals you don’t make are the best ones,” which he said about Osweiler. Elway offered Osweiler a contract very similar to what the Texans gave him.

Bill O’Brien has the “quarterback guru” label attached to him. How he got that reputation is less clear. He made Ryan Fitzpatrick look competent in 2014, but since then his attempts to make the best out of replacement parts QBs haven’t been successful.

Osweiler was supposed to be different, a talented quarterback for “the guru” to work with, but that’s not working out so far either.

The Texans can’t wiggle out of Osweiler’s contract until 2018. Cutting him next year would smack them with a $25 million cap hit.

In other words, someone better help Brock Osweiler find his confidence again. One strategy: remind him that he’s very tall, 6’8, and NOBODY can take that away from him.
