Morning Skate: Jamie Benn and Duncan Keith make excellent preseason debuts
And so will our newest hockey blog, later today!

Lace ‘em up. Time for the Morning Skate.
DANDY DEBUTS
It’s only natural: As preseason winds down and the regular-season openers loom, veterans and stars start to finally hit the ice. A couple of them did so last night to great effect.
Jamie Benn made his preseason debut against the Panthers and looked like he never had any injury issues at all. And Ryan O’Reilly should make his debut in Buffalo this week. The two Joes are back for the Sharks.
Oh, and speaking of debuts: Our new women’s hockey blog, The Ice Garden, debuts today! Follow them on Twitter and Facebook this morning and check back when the site goes live at noon ET!
AND ONE MORE THING: Our 2016-17 NHL season preview drops tomorrow. Predictions, outlooks, hot takes, and so much more. Get excited.
TWO QUICK JETS THINGS
First, Arctic Ice Hockey has a good breakdown on how the remaining roster cuts will shake out. Which makes it apparent just how loaded Winnipeg is for the future. That’s a lot of skill in the pipeline.
And at the head of that tidal wave? Kyle Connor. Our predictions will come out tomorrow, but I already regret not putting the 2015 NCAA leading scorer as my Calder Trophy pick. If he sticks around with the Jets long enough, I think the Michigan product will stack up just as well, if not better, than the rest of the rookie class (including his teammate, Patrik Laine).
Just keep an eye on him.
