Fantasy football advice, Week 5: Who to start/sit for Arizona Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers
Dan Ciarrocchi reviews who should be in fantasy lineups or on the bench for this Thursday night divisional showdown.

Arizona Cardinals
Start ‘em
Carson Palmer has been ruled out with a concussion, so the trickle-down effect from his absence will be felt throughout. David Johnson could be called upon early and often to take the weight off of Drew Stanton’s shoulders, but Johnson’s usage has never been an issue. He is a top-flight RB1 as usual.
Start ‘em?
Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and John Brown saw many games in 2015 where all three could be viable starters at the receiver position. But the Cardinals offense has shown a downside this year, and with Stanton under center, it would be bold to think there is enough wealth to go around. Fitzgerald can be considered the leader of the pack for now, but is more of a low-end WR2 even in a good matchup. Floyd and Brown can be considered boom-or-bust flex options.
Sit ‘em
The Cardinals’ rotation at tight end, along with Jaron Brown and J.J. Nelson, do not deserve starting consideration. Stanton can remain on waivers as well.
San Francisco 49ers
Start ‘em
Carlos Hyde has enjoyed a good start to the season, which says a lot for being on such a lethargic offense. Hyde’s five rushing touchdowns rank second among running backs, which is reflective of him being the workhorse and the 49ers’ best offensive weapon. Hyde can be considered a solid RB2 in a game script that could favor the run.
Start ‘em?
Jeremy Kerley got in limited practice sessions, and will be needed to get the passing attack going. Kerley leads the 49ers’ receivers in catches and yards, and him lining up in the slot may avoid the likes of Patrick Peterson. It’s not a great matchup for Kerley, but fantasy owners in a bind due to bye weeks could do worse than him as a WR3.
Sit’em
Torrey Smith, Blaine Gabbert and Vance McDonald remain far off the fantasy radar.
