The Rams have a better record when they don’t score touchdowns

Nothing about the Rams makes any sense.

The Rams beat the Jets on Sunday in an ugly 9-6 game that featured eight punts, three turnovers, and fewer than 300 yards of offense per team. The game came down to field goals. Greg Zuerlein went 3-for-3 on his attempts, including a 34-yarder that proved to be a game-winner. With the win, the Rams won their second game of the season in which they didn’t score a touchdown.

That seems like it should be a sign of a team that’s dysfunctional on offense — and that precisely describes the Rams — but surprisingly, the Rams have actually been better when they can’t find the end zone.

The Rams’ other touchdown-less win came in Week 2 when they beat the Seahawks, 9-3. They were also shut out, 28-0, in their season opener against the 49ers. They’ve gone 2-4 in all other games, including a loss in the game they posted their most yards (387 against the Lions).

The last time a team won two games in one season without a scoring a touchdown was 2002, when the eventual Super Bowl champion Buccaneers won 15-0 against the Bears and 12-9 against the Panthers during the regular season. Don’t expect the Rams to have the same success.

The Rams’ win improved their record to 4-5, putting them well on pace for some “7-9 bullsh*t.” Nothing about the Rams makes any sense, and Jeff Fisher is probably a Ponzi scheme.
