Sean Payton delighted in trouncing former Saints DC Gregg Williams in a 49-21 win over the Rams

The Saints sure were happy to see the man who brought them Bountygate.

Gregg Williams hasn’t been back to New Orleans since he wound up serving a year’s suspension over Bountygate in 2012. Williams, now the Los Angeles Rams’ defensive coordinator, came back to town this week. Sean Payton and the Saints had the perfect homecoming gift for him: running up the score and getting creative with it.

The Saints had 28 points and a 28-21 lead at the half. When they came back onto the field, they went immediately to work with a four-play, 75-yard scoring drive that only took two minutes off the clock.

And they weren’t done.

Drew Brees became only the second player in NFL history with 30 career four-touchdown games. But Payton saved his best work for the fourth quarter, sitting on a 41-21 lead.

Willie Snead found Tim Hightower for a 50-yard touchdown on a wide receiver option pass to make it 49-21.

That happened with 10 minutes left to play. Y

Williams, who’s already been spotted arguing with Jeff Fisher on the sideline, seemed thrilled by the whole thing.

Kill the head, right?

Payton and the Saints made it clear after the game that they were on a mission to send Williams packing in the most humiliating way possible, dominating his defense.

”We wanted to make sure Gregg Williams didn’t come back and have a good time,” Saints running back Mark Ingram said after the game.

The defense did its part too, allowing just 60 yards of offense in the second half.

Payton was more animated than usual on the sideline during game. He acknowledged that after the game, taking just a brief second to bask in it all.

The win wasn’t just about revenge for the Saints. It moves them to 5-6 on the season, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
