Derek Carr’s gross, crooked pinkie finger was not enough to stop the Raiders

That looks bad. But not bad enough to keep Carr and the Raiders down.

Derek Carr left the Oakland Raiders’ game against the Carolina Panthers with a nasty pinkie injury. It forced him to go to the locker room. He came back, put on a glove and handled things just fine.

Here’s how it happened.

Carr took a snap under center to start the Raiders’ first drive of the second half, and immediately backed away, grabbing his pinkie. It appeared Carr pulled away too fast, and that’s what caused it.

The injury was to his throwing hand. Tracy Wolfson said on the CBS broadcast that Carr was screaming in pain.

Up to that point, Carr had completed 15 of 20 pass attempts for 176 yards and one touchdown. The Raiders were also up 24-7 on the Panthers.

Matt McGloin came in for Carr. McGloin has been with the Raiders since 2013, and is 1-5 in six career starts.

Carr would come back out with a glove on his throwing hand, warming up to go back out onto the field.

Carr missed one series, and was back in the lineup with the glove on his throwing hand.

Since coming back into the game, Carr’s gone 11-for-18 with a touchdown and an interception. He threw a fourth quarter touchdown to tight end Clive Walford and then made the two-point conversion to tie it up 32-32 with five minutes to go. Carr couldn’t get the touchdown on the Raiders’ last drive, but the defense came up big to preserve a 35-32 win.

Further evidence that the pinkie finger is pretty much useless.

The Raiders got good news after the game as well, with X-rays showing no fracture on Carr’s hand, per head coach Jack Del Rio:
