NBC Sports will provide coverage of the first day of the Breeder’s Cup, featuring Songbird in the Longines Distaff.

NBCSN will have the television broadcast beginning at 5 p.m.
The juvenile turf is a $1 million, 1-mile race that features some of the top 2-year-old colts. At 6:05 p.m., the $1 million Las Vegas Dirt Mile will be run by 3-year-olds and includes former Triple Crown contenders Dortmund (6-5 odds) and Gun Runner (9-2). At 6:50 p.m., some of the best 2-year-old fillies will be tested on grass in the $1 million, juvenile fillies turf race. The field is 16 strong, and Roly Poly (4-1), trained by Aiden O’Brien, France’s Spain Burg (5-1), and Ireland’s Intricately (6-1).
Those races are just building excitement toward the $2 million Longines Distaff (7:35 p.m.), in which undefeated Songbird will attempt to defeat former victor, Beholder. Songbird (6-5) will be starting on the rail and going for a 12th consecutive victory. Likely running for second place, Stellar Wind has seven wins, two seconds and a third in 11 starts. Two of those victories came against Beholder in July and October, while she also finished second behind Beholder in June.
The Breeder’s Cup will continue on Saturday, with the Classic set for an 8:35 p.m. post time.
