Andy Murray was set to compete against Milos Raonic in the Paris Masters semifinals. When Raonic retired due to injury, two things happened.
Andy Murray played doubles against 3 ball kids after his opponent dropped out
You know they’re going to remember this for a lifetime.
First, Murray advanced to become the No. 1-ranked tennis player in the world, passing Novak Djokovic. Murray went on to beat John Isner in the finals.
Second, and more importantly, Murray realized he was all geared up to play tennis and suddenly had no opponent. Wait, scratch that. You can always find opponents to play doubles, so Murray recruited few ballboys and had a thrilling game in front of a crowd who ooh’d and ah’d every shot.
Try to watch more than five seconds of that video without smiling. My favorite part is this kid’s face, as he must be halfway between “holy crap I’m about to play tennis with the best tennis player in the world” and “wow I’m about to wake up from this wild dream, aren’t I?”
Good on ya, kid. You know he’ll remember this for the rest of his life.
