The playoffs continue on Sunday for many fantasy leagues, and those owners don’t have any more room for error. Luckily, fantasy owners will have more than a few options to choose from in a matchup between two teams who only have pride to play for at this point in the season. Let’s take a look:
Fantasy football advice, Week 14: Who to start/sit for New York Jets vs. San Francisco 49ers
Dan Ciarrocchi reviews who should be in fantasy lineups or on benches for a Week 14 inter-conference matchup.

New York Jets
Start ‘em
The 49ers’ defense continues to hemorrhage yards, touchdowns, and of course, fantasy points to opposing running backs, and Matt Forte is next in line to capitalize. Against a defense that has surrendered a league-worst 2,032 yards on the ground and 17 rushing touchdowns, Forte can be penned in as a RB1 even as the Jets’ offense continues to struggle. If there was ever a “get-right” game for them, it presents itself in Week 14. Brandon Marshall can also be started as a WR3/flex despite having just one touchdown over his last seven contests, although fantasy owners must take his riskiness into account.
Sit ‘em
Bryce Petty will get the nod against a porous 49ers defense, but he isn’t worth counting on in the first week of fantasy playoffs, nor is Robby Anderson, who was heavily targeted by the young quarterback in Week 13’s lopsided defeat. Fantasy owners with stock in the Jets have a great matchup at hand to exploit, but shouldn’t get carried away.
San Francisco 49ers
Start ‘em
Colin Kaepernick followed up a magnificent Week 12 with an absolute dud against the Chicago Bears, much to the chagrin of quarterback streamers and DFS players. He is presented with another good matchup on Sunday against the Jets’ Swiss-cheese secondary, but fantasy owners can’t discount the possibility of him being benched mid-game again. Kaepernick is still justifiable as an upside QB1 given his fabulous fantasy outputs prior to his setback.
Start ‘em?
Carlos Hyde remains the centerpiece of the 49ers’ offense, and though he faces the NFL’s No. 4-ranked run defense, he garners enough usage to remain fantasy relevant as a RB2. With Petty leading the Jets, it isn’t likely that Hyde and company will have to abandon the run amid a blowout.
Sit ‘em
The trio of Jeremy Kerley, Torrey Smith and Vance McDonald could very well capitalize against the NFL’s 24th-ranked pass defense, but fantasy owners would be better suited taking a chance on options with higher floors.
