Kevin Durant donated $57,000 to make sure homeless Oklahoma kids can go to school

Positive Tomorrows, Oklahoma’s only school for homeless kids, will use the funds to open a new facility.

Kevin Durant may have left the Thunder for the Warriors during free agency, but his heart is still in Oklahoma City. And the All-Star forward proved so on Tuesday with a huge charitable donation to help the state’s struggling youth.

Positive Tomorrows, a tuition-free elementary school for homeless children, announced The Kevin Durant Charity Foundation donated $57,000. His donation unlocked an anonymous $50,000 challenge grant, and the school will use its new funds to buy land in order to build a new facility, it announced on its website.

“Kevin continues to be a great friend to Positive Tomorrows, and he has been instrumental in helping our school grow over the last several years,” said Susan Agel, President and Principal at Positive Tomorrows. “Still, we consistently turn away students due to a lack of space, and his generous contribution this year along with several anonymous donors will enable us to embark on our upcoming capital campaign debt-free. We are so grateful.”

Durant has a history with Positive Tomorrows. In 2015, he visited the school while making a $35,000 donation. It was his third time stopping by, but the students still couldn’t believe he showed up.

Last year, Positive Tomorrows turned away 100 homeless kids. This year, that number dropped down to 60. And if Durant keeps making generous donations, he could see to it that all Oklahoma kids have access to the education they need, regardless of their living situation.

No matter where you stand on his free agency decision, everyone can agree KD’s got a heart of gold.
