Steve Kerr leads Warriors fans in ‘moment of joy’ to honor Craig Sager

The Oracle Arena crowd exploded into cheers in honor of Craig Sager.

Longtime NBA sideline reporter Craig Sager passed away on Thursday after a years-long battle with a rare form of leukemia. But rather than a moment of silence, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr had something else in mind.

Ahead of the Warriors’ matchup against the New York Knicks, Kerr prompted the Oracle Arena crowd for “a moment of joy.” The audience erupted into mass cheering.

Prior to addressing the crowd, Kerr also shared his experience working with Sager when he called games taking the job as Warriors coach.

“I’ve got lots. We worked together for eight years,” Kerr said. “A lot of fun games and a lot of fun nights on the road, although with Sags you only saw him for about 15 minutes on the road because he had to move on to the next bar or restaurant to see the next group of people. He literally couldn’t sit still. He knew so many people that he was constantly on the run.”

“A lot of fun golf games on off days during the playoffs,” Kerr continued. “Just a fun guy to be around. He had a spirit and an energy that very few people I’ve ever met possess. A lot of sad people at Turner Sports tonight covering the game tonight. That’s not an easy day.”

Sager had an impact on everyone he came across. The NBA family misses him dearly.
