NCAA Tournament 2016 times and TV schedule: Saturday brings South, West Region finals

Only the tallest timber is still standing in the South and West.

Have you been waiting for all the lower seeds to clear out of the 2016 NCAA Tournament, so the teams considered the best in college basketball could clash? Well, you’re an odd person who probably doesn’t really appreciate the drama of the early rounds of March Madness like you should -- but you’re getting your wish on Saturday.

Only No. 1 and No. 2 seeds remain in the Elite Eight in the South and West Regions, with No. 1 overall seed Kansas set to take on white-hot No. 2 Villanova in the South Region final and No. 1 Oregon meeting No. 2 Oklahoma in Anaheim for the right to represent the West Region in the Final Four.

Counterintuitively, the West Region’s Elite Eight game will actually be the first of the day, with Oregon and Oklahoma tipping off just after 3 p.m. local time in California. Kansas and Villanova won’t get started until almost 8 p.m. in Louisville.

While two No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchups happened in the Elite Eight in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, they were on different days. The last time a single day of regional finals featured two such matchups was in 2009, when No. 1 North Carolina defeated No. 2 Oklahoma to win the South Regional, and No. 2 Michigan State upended No. 1 Louisville to take the Midwest.

Here are the times and TV schedules for Saturday’s Elite Eight contests, both of which will air on CBS.

Sat., March 26 (all times Eastern)

West Region Regional Final: (Honda Center, Anaheim, Calif.)
No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 2 Oklahoma, 6:09 p.m., CBS

South Region Regional Final (KFC Yum! Center, Louisville, Ky.)
No. 1 Kansas vs. No. 2 Villanova: 8:49 p.m., CBS
