Stephen Curry will not play for Warriors in Game 2 against Rockets

The reigning MVP will not suit up after injuring his right ankle in the first half of Game 1.

Stephen Curry will sit out Game 2 of the first-round Western Conference playoff series between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. He cut his pregame routine abruptly, shaking his head in disappointment.

After turning his right ankle late in the first half of Game 1, Curry sat out the second half of the Warriors’ dominant 104-78 win on Saturday and was listed as questionable for Game 2.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr was hesitant about playing his star through an injury after the first game, but Curry insisted he wouldn’t miss Monday night’s game.

Curry was superb before leaving Game 1. He torched the Rockets for 24 first-half points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field with five threes. The reigning MVP of the league has struggled through ankle injuries in the past -- he played only 26 games in the lockout-shortened 2012 season -- but he’s been relatively healthy recently. He played 79 games in the Warriors’ historic 73-9 season while setting an NBA record with 402 made three-pointers.

With Curry unavailable, the Warriors will have to take care of business on their home court against the struggling Rockets without their star. Golden State played the Rockets once during the regular season sans Curry, holding on for a 114-110 road victory.
