A tearful Dave Joerger lauds his team’s fight after a difficult Grizzlies season

It’s easy to make fun of the Memphis Grizzles in the playoffs. The series seemed over before it even started since they were up against the San Antonio Spurs.
Memphis was antithetical to everything the Spurs stood for in the regular season; they were inefficient and featured a revolving door of players due to various trades and injuries. They’re out of the playoffs now, losing all four games of the series.
During the postgame conference, Grizzlies coach David Joerger opened up to reporters and revealed how difficult yet fulfilling the season was. The revolving door of players on the roster was a positive experience for the head coach. Rather than rejecting the change, he embraced it:
“I’d do anything for those guys. I’ve embraced every guy who came here no matter what their history was. I cared about them.”
At that point, Joerger justifiably began crying. Though the Grizzlies didn’t find any success in this year’s playoffs, Joerger’s passion for the game and dedication to his players is something any NBA player can appreciate.
