Complete list of draft picks by position

The 2016 NFL Draft is now in the books, and there will be plenty of information to dissect over the coming days and weeks. But before we really start analyzing this year’s class, let’s go over a popular bit of trivia: what positions were the most-drafted this year?

Turns out it was wide receiver. Yes, despite the general consensus of this being a weak year for wideouts, at the end of the weekend we had 33 drafted, leading the way. We also had four first-round draft picks thanks to a run later in the round.

The NFL tagged the wrong Connor Cook on Twitter

NFL teams go above and beyond when analyzing college players entering the draft. Their knowledge of every player by the time they answer the phone on draft day is insurmountable. Still, they can probably do better when it comes to social media.

The Oakland Raiders drafted quarterback Connor Cook out of Michigan State. The pick was surprising given the team’s promising young quarterback in Derek Carr. What was even more surprising, however, was that the NFL didn’t know Cook’s Twitter handle.

    Dolphins sign QB Brandon Doughty

Doughty’s first full season as a starter was 2013, when he rewrote the Hilltoppers’ record book under Bobby Petrino. He set new records for single-season passing yards (2,857) and single-season completion percentage (65.8), but turned the ball over too often, throwing 14 interceptions to go along with his 14 touchdown passes. Though Western Kentucky went 8-4, they were snubbed from a bowl appearance.

The 2014 campaign was a season of change for WKU, as it moved to Conference USA and lost Petrino to Louisville. Offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm was promoted to head coach, and Doughty began to shine as a redshirt senior. He produced the greatest statistical season in school history, throwing for 4,830 yards (16th all-time in the FBS) and tossing a Conference USA-record 49 touchdowns. Doughty also cut down on his turnovers, only giving up the ball 10 times in 552 attempts.

    Cardale Jones drafted by Bills

Jones, however, elected to return to Ohio State for his junior season. He beat out Barrett for the starting job last summer and Miller was moved to wide receiver. The Buckeyes got off to a 7-0 start, but Barrett regained the starting job after Jones struggled under new quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Tim Beck. Beck replaced Tom Herman, who left to become Houston’s head coach, and admitted to Cleveland.com this spring that he had trouble adjusting to his new gig.

Jones finished his college career a perfect 10-0 as a starter. He completed 166 of the 269 passes he threw during his three seasons at Ohio State, for 2,322 yards, to go along with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also ran for 617 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

    Cowboys take Dak Prescott

Considered a high-ceiling but low floor player, Prescott is expected to face a tough transition to the NFL. Prescott was considered one of the “second-tier” quarterbacks in this year’s draft, alongside guys like Paxton Lynch and Cardale Jones, but well behind the top players in Jared Goff of Cal and Carson Wentz of North Dakota State.

Experts suggested that this year’s quarterback class was weaker than those in year’s past overall, with Goff and Wentz being the only NFL-ready players. Prescott was always a player that needed to sit for some time before getting an opportunity to start in the NFL.

Roger Goodell is ready to fight the fans

Roger Goodell appears to have had his mid-life crisis as the NFL Draft entered Day 3. A puffy-jacketed commissioner appeared in front of a booing Chicago crowd proclaiming “Bring it on!” in one of the weirdest opening draft moments we’ve seen in a while.

Goodell normally ignores the boos or even smile slightly, but this new-look Rog is ready to trade in his Dodge Stratus for a Mazda Miata, learn to “be on fleek” and fight anyone who steps to him.
