Watch Preakness Stakes live online with NBC streaming

NBC Sports Live Extra has you covered.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

You can stream the 2016 Preakness Stakes using NBC Sports Live Extra if you’re unable to watch the second leg of the Triple Crown in person or on television. The Preakness Stakes broadcast begins at 5 p.m. ET.

On your television, NBCSN will carry the preshow up until that point, with NBC taking over coverage following the hockey game. The post time is set for approximately 6:45 p.m.

The $1.5 million, 1-3/16-mile race is expected to be a wet one, but that shouldn’t slow down heavy favorite Nyquist (3-5 odds), winner of the 2016 Kentucky Derby two weeks ago. He has experience running on wet tracks and won the Florida Derby in April in such conditions. Likewise, Derby runner-up Exaggerator (3-1 odds) had one of his best performances on the sloppy track at Santa Anita, running from way back in the field to win by nearly seven lengths. Another to watch in the mud is Abiding Star (30-1), with two wins on wet dirt in three starts, though none of them were key stakes races.

If Nyquist wins the Preakness, he will remain unbeaten for his career and will enter the Belmont Stakes three weeks from now with a chance to be the second colt in two years to win the Triple Crown. American Pharoah broke a 37-year drought by winning the crown last year.

The last time an undefeated horse did so was in 1977 with Seattle Slew. The last back-to-back Triple Crown winners came in 1977-78 with Seattle Slew and Affirmed.

Up until the race, you can watch a replay of the Kentucky Derby, and be sure to check out all of NBC’s great coverage of the Triple Crown, as well.
