Kentucky Oaks video 2015: Watch Cathryn Sophia capture the garland of lilies

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

After a slow start, Cathryn Sophia took control down the stretch to win the 2016 Kentucky Oaks on Friday evening at Churchill Downs, the premiere race for 3-year-old fillies.

At 7-1 odds just before the one-and-one-eighth-mile race, Cathryn Sophia emerged victorious with a winning time of 1:50:33, winning the race by two lengths. Land Over Sea finished in second, with Lewis Bay in third.

It marked the first Kentucky Oaks win for trainer John Servis and jockey Javier Castellanos. Servis won the 2004 Kentucky Derby with Smarty Jones, a horse that also won the Preakness that year.

Cathryn Sophia, with a purchase price of just $30,000, paid out $11.40 to win on the betting circuit, and netted $600,000 for her owner with the win.
