Texas A&M has the most soul-crushing chant in college sports that you probably haven’t heard of: “Ball Five.” It’s a pretty simple concept by which a pitcher who walks an Aggie batter has the entire stadium serenade him with the endless droning of “ball five” until his next strike.
This went to the next level on Sunday night when TCU was in town. Junior pitcher Mitchell Traver walked a batter, was met with “Ball Five.” After two pickoff attempts he threw another ball -- enter the “Ball Six” chant. Then another ... and another. The A&M crowd made it all the way to a “Ball Eight” chant before Traver finally threw a strike.
His reward? A raucous, sarcastic round of applause. Dang A&M fans, that’s cold.
