Morning Skate: Ranking every NHL jersey change over the last 6 years
Hint: The Panthers nailed it.
Lace ‘em up. Time for the Morning Skate.

NEW THREADS
Hey, the Florida Panthers unveiled new jerseys last night! They are approximately the 1,000th team to do so in the last six years. Since it’s Friday, let’s rank all of them. (Note: I’m only including teams that made wholesale changes to their home and away uniforms and/or logo. So, the Wild and Kings don’t count.)
1. Florida Panthers
I could just be a sucker for the recency effect. Who knows. But the Panthers’ new unis have little touches that make a world of difference. The logo is classy and a nice nod to the military. And the laces are a great homage to the Florida state flag. These are great.
2. Nashville Predators
Again, the details are what count. They’ve got guitar picks, piano keys, guitar strings and a nice mix of gold and navy blue. A lot of people hate these. A lot of people are dumb.
3. Arizona Coyotes
Multi-colored arms. More, please.
4. Winnipeg Jets
Sure, there’s too much blue in the home jerseys. But the palette is simple, sleek and the logo is excellent.
5. Dallas Stars
Admittedly, I’m biased here. And Dallas’ latest uniforms certainly bear a striking resemblance to the Chicago Blackhawks in a few ways. For that reason, they get bumped down a bit. But green, black and white is such a unique look.
6. Tampa Bay Lightning
6. San Jose Sharks
Did away with the shoulder stuff. Good move!
7. Carolina Hurricanes
A boring hybrid of the Blackhawks, Stars, Red Wings and Lightning.
8. St. Louis Blues
Everyone raved about these when they came out, but they’re just slightly improved versions of the same thing.
9. Anaheim Ducks
No. Not even going to link to them.
GAME 3 IS NOT TONIGHT
Do not cancel your Friday night plans. Or go ahead and make some. This gives us a whole ‘nother day to debate about Sidney Crosby cheating on faceoffs. Here’s some other good reads from our Sharks and Penguins blogs:
- Let’s reject some bad Game 2 narratives about the Sharks.
- Here’s a back and forth between Fear The Fin and Pensburgh about the final.

NEWS AND NOTES:
- Jamie Benn got his hips fixed and got even better.
- Jets defenseman Grant Clitsome retired this week due to a back injury.
- The Canadiens hired Kirk Muller away from the Blues to run their power play, and our Habs blog thinks the move could be a home run.
- Thanks to a bad defense, the Bruins asked more of Tuukka Rask this year than they ever have. He delivered.
- Sounds like the Red Wings are getting in on the Alexander Radulov sweepstakes.
- The Islanders signed Casey Cizikas to a five-year extension worth $3.3 million per year, which, okay. Sure. You do you, Garth Snow.
- Leon Draisaitl is a model of consistency.
