US Olympic swimming trials 2016: Time, TV schedule and events for Thursday

The Olympic Swimming trials continue on Thursday from Omaha.

Erich Schlegel-USA TODAY Sports

Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte will both be competing in the 200-meter individual medley at the USA Swimming Olympic trials on Thursday. Phelps punched his ticket to the Rio 2016 Olympics with an impressive victory in the 200-meter butterfly finals on Wednesday and he’ll be in the water again on Thursday. Phelps, an 18-time gold medalist, is the only man to make it on the USA Swimming Olympic team for five different iterations of the Olympic Games.

Lochte and Phelps were both originally set to be in the 100-meter freestyle event on Thursday, but both dropped the event and will compete elsewhere.

Katie Ledecky and Missy Franklin will also be competing in the women’s 100-meter freestyle prelims and semifinals on Thursday. But in finals action, the men’s 100-meter freestyle will be settled as Nathan Adrian, Caeleb Dressel, Anthony Ervin and Conor Dwyer will all be pushing for a spot on the team after they finished in the top four of the semifinals on Wednesday.

In the women’s 200-meter butterfly finals, Cammile Adams, Hali Flickinger, Kelsi Worrell and Cassidy Bayer are the four to watch as they finished in the top four in Wednesday’s semifinals.

The first block of prelims, beginning at 11 a.m., will be streamed but not on television. The second block of prelims begins at 6:30 p.m. and will run on NBCSN through 8 p.m. NBCSN will also carry coverage of some finals events, from 9 to 9:30 p.m. The first block of semifinals and finals will begin at 8 p.m. and will run an hour on NBC. All of those events will be live streamed, with only the first three-hour block unavailable on TV.
