Tour de France final standings 2016: Chris Froome wins his 3rd Tour, Andre Greipel takes Champs-Elysees

Barring a catastrophe, Chris Froome was going to win his third Tour de France Sunday. He managed to avoid catastrophe.

The stage itself was taken by Andre Greipel. The ultimate victor, however, was Froome.

With the yellow jacket all but decided, Froome celebrated and coasted his way through Stage 21 of the race, which began at the beginning of the month in Normandy.

The full scale of the race -- which was just completed in a mere 21 days -- is hard to fathom, even with pictures of the exact path. Doing it faster than anyone else in the world three different times? That’s just ridiculous. Froome joins Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Miguel Indurain, Phillippe Thys, Louison Bobet and Greg LeMond as the only riders to win the race three or more times.

Team Sky took to Twitter to congratulate him as well as the rest of his teammates.

Safe to say there might be a few more glasses of champagne in Froome’s future Sunday.
