The total of 103 medals was plenty more than second-place China’s 88. The 46 gold medals also healthily eclipsed the 38 gold medals from China. The host country, Great Britain, came in third with 29 gold medals.
As usual, the United States is hoping to dominate in the sport of swimming. Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Katie Ledecky and Missy Franklin will all be swimming in various events, and the women’s gymnastics team looks to be one of the strongest ever. Basketball is obviously a strength again, too.
