Olympics 2016: Olympians sing the Olympics theme song

They actually do a pretty good job — in most cases!

Once every four years, our households are filled with a familiar tune as “Olympic Fanfare and Theme” by John Williams plays throughout broadcasts. During the month of the games, we listen to it with enough frequency that we’re numb to it -- timpani drums rolling in one ear and out the other. We associate it with those who compete; it’s an anthem that represents everyone involved regardless of their nation.

But those we attach it to don’t even know it. It’s not playing in the stadiums, arenas, or tracks where they’re competing, and because of that they have a better chance of knowing the words to someone else’s national anthem. This is what makes it all the more entertaining when they try to sing, hum, or perform the Olympic theme song. While their desire for perfection is evident, I sincerely hope that they’re all fine winning medals instead of Grammy’s.
