Rio gymnastics 2016: Time and TV schedule for men’s individual all-around final
Kohei Uchimura looks to defend his Olympic title in the men’s all-around.

Japanese gymnast Kohei Uchimura will look to defend his gold medal in the individual all-around. One of five medals that Uchimura won during the 2012 Olympics in London, he’s looking to follow up on that impressive effort with a similarly brilliant showing in Rio. Uchimura, 27, also won gold in all-around at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow, so he’s riding momentum into the Olympics.
Uchimura, despite his acclaim, actually took second place in qualifying Saturday behind Ukraine’s 22-year-old Oleg Verniaiev, setting up what could be a tremendous duel between a youngster and relative veteran. Behind Uchimura, David Belyavskiy took third place by fewer than 0.7 points. Americans Sam Mikulak (seventh in qualifying) and Chris Brooks (19th) will represent Team USA.
Only two Americans have ever won the competition: Julius Lenhart in 1904 and Paul Hamm in 2004. It took a century between the last two U.S. gold medals in the event, so hopefully the country doesn’t need to wait that long again. Uchimura was the first Japanese winner since Koji Gushiken in 1984.
This is one of the big Olympic events in gymnastics, so it’s definitely worth catching. Here’s how to watch the action live:
