Olympic basketball schedule 2016: A Warriors reunion when USA meets Australia

USA Basketball is back in action on Wednesday, and that means Draymond Green and Klay Thompson get to see old friend Andrew Bogut again.

Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

In June, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Harrison Barnes were playing with Andrew Bogut in the quest for an NBA title. On Wednesday, they’ll clash against him in the quest for Olympic gold.

It’s been 52 days since their Golden State Warriors fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers in game seven of one of the most epic NBA Finals of all time. It’s been 37 since the Warriors ditched Bogut, casting him out to the Dallas Mavericks in order to clear the salary cap space to sign megastar (and Team USA leader) Kevin Durant. Now, Green, Thompson, and Barnes will face their former teammate on the hardwood as an opponent for the first time ever.

Bogut isn’t the only familiar NBA face who will suit up for the Boomers. There are seven Australian players who have spent time on big league rosters in Rio this summer. Most notable among them are the Milwaukee Bucks’ Matthew Dellavedova and San Antonio Spurs’ Patty Mills. The Aussies have a strong mix of shooting and rebounding, and at 2-0 they are the only other undefeated team in the United States’ group.

Still, Australia will be a significant underdog to Team USA when the two teams tip off at 6 p.m. eastern time.

The men aren’t the only American team in action on Wednesday. The U.S. women’s team, fresh off a pair of demolitions in its opening matchups, will return to the floor to take on Serbia at 2:30 p.m.. They won their first two games by an average 52.5 point margin of victory. An 0-2 Serbia team hardly seems like the kind of opponent to derail their winning streak, but there’s some inherent value in watching a Dream Team-esque 50-point mudhole stomping.
