Olympic gymnastics 2016: Time and TV schedule for women’s individual all-around final

Can the U.S. win a fourth straight gold in the women’s individual all-around?

Simone Biles entered Rio as hyped as any American athlete in these Olympics, and now she’ll get her chance to live up to all the attention. The women’s individual all-around final in gymnastics will be held Wednesday afternoon in Rio, and Biles is among the 24 athletes competing for the top prize. The action begins at 3 p.m. ET on NBC.

In gymnastics, there’s arguably no greater feat than winning Olympic gold in the individual all-around. While there are loads of other events, both individual and team, this is pretty much the big one. If Biles is indeed as amazing as the pre-Olympics coverage indicated, she’ll want to come up big here.

This is an event that the U.S. has dominated over the past few Olympics. While countries from Eastern Europe owned the event throughout the 20th century, an American has won gold in each of the past three Olympics. After Carly Patterson in 2004 and Nastia Liukin in 2008, Gabrielle Douglas brought home the gold for the U.S. in 2012.

Now it feels like Biles’ turn, but there’s no shortage of strong competition in Rio. She’ll have to deliver another exceptional performance in order to come away with gold. The odds appear to be in her favor, though, so if you want to see a special athlete at the height of her powers, you should check out Biles’ routine in this event Wednesday.
