Kayla Harrison looks to defend her gold medal in Rio on Thursday afternoon.

Kayla Harrison, the final American judoka competing this year, will be looking to defend her Olympic gold medal. She became the first American judoka in any weight class to win an Olympic gold medal four years ago in London and enters Rio as a favorite to repeat on the podium. The 26-year-old would be the first back-to-back winner of the women’s 78kg class in the Olympics since it was added to the Games in 1992.
In April, Harrison won gold at the 2016 Pan American Judo Championships in Havana, so she’s riding momentum into the Olympics.
