2016 Rio Olympics live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch NBC’s evening coverage online

Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte go at it in the 200-meter individual medley on Thursday night.

Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte have been two of the biggest faces in American swimming over the past dozen years. On Thursday night, they’ll be competing against each other in the 200-meter individual medley final during the night session in Rio, with one more Olympic gold on the line.

Whether you want to watch Phelps and Lochte go for gold or want to catch something else, NBC Sports will have you covered with a live stream of it all.

The showdown between Phelps and Lochte highlights what should be an exciting night of Olympic coverage by NBC Sports, which will be streaming it all live. The chance to watch Phelps take on Lochte and others one last time in one of his best competitions should be must-watch TV (or live stream if you prefer).

Phelps has long dominated the 200-meter individual medley, winning the gold medal in the event at the past three Olympics. Lochte, meanwhile, would probably have a gold medal of his own in the 200-meter individual medley if it wasn’t for Phelps. While Phelps was earning that trio of golds, Lochte won two silvers and a bronze.

The individual medley is a strength for both swimmers. Phelps’ proficiency is undeniable as the most decorated Olympian in history. Lochte won gold in the 400-meter individual medley at the 2012 Olympics in addition to his silver at 200-meter. Each swimmer 31 years old, they’re going at it one last time as Phelps looks to reaffirm his place as the greatest swimmer in history.

That’s the big thing on the schedule for Thursday night, although Rio will have more to offer. Reid Priddy and the U.S. men’s volleyball team take on Brazil at 9:30 p.m. ET. At the same time, Lithuania and Argentina will tip off in men’s basketball.

At some point during the evening coverage, a new trailer for the Star Wars film Rogue One will premiere, as well. Here are some notable events in prime time and how to catch them online.
