An Olympic boxer who was arrested and reportedly charged with attempted rape in Rio has been permitted to continue competing following his release from jail. Namibian boxer Jonas Junias was arrested Sunday, but was released and attended his weigh-in Thursday morning for his upcoming match against France’s Hassan Amzile.

The reason for Junias’ arrest has not been confirmed, but the Sydney Morning Herald reports he was accused of “attempting to sexually assault a housekeeper in the Olympic village.” Junias is the second Olympic boxer to be arrested in Rio after Morocco’s Hassan Saada, who was arrested Friday.
Mark Adams, a spokesperson for the International Olympic Committee, confirmed that Junias attended his weigh-in and was free to participate while the legal process plays out.
“I think it’s important to say here that what’s overriding is the justice system in this country has to take its course,” Adams said. “I understand that he’s been released pending further action, but he is free to compete. He’s not been found guilty of anything as yet so my understanding is the legal system in the country takes precedence and allows him to be innocent before proven guilty.”
Junias, who fights in the 64kg light welter weight class, will be facing Amzile at 5 p.m. ET on Thursday in Rio. He was Namibia’s flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony.
